The mission of Shepherd’s House Church of the Nazarene is for the congregation to be unified in spirit and truth (John 4:24) as we strive to share the holistic love of God with our surrounding community. We make every effort to be a church that supports and encourages each other through daily life, together, pursuing holiness in our lives. We work to create a better future for each other and our community, proclaiming the Gospel through word and action. We seek together a worship experience that is personal and in line with the heritage of the one, holy, unified, and historic church.

Shepherd’s House Church of the Nazarene is a liturgical church with a calm environment.
A "liturgical church" conducts its services by a liturgy — a pattern of worship that has been passed down from tradition.
During each worship service, there are responsive readings, singing, prayers said by everyone, Scriptures read from different books of the Bible, a sermon, a time of greeting called “Passing the Peace”, and Holy Communion.
There is a PowerPoint and physical Handouts to help guide us through the service. If you don’t know some of the words (like Eucharist), that’s okay! The pastor will try to explain them. If you have questions, anyone around you would be happy to help!
Many people with anxiety or trouble focusing have found this structure of service and the calming atmosphere of Shepherd's House to be helpful for them as they seek to engage in worship. You will often see people in our services knitting, writing, or drawing, which we appreciate!
We offer children's church each week and on the fifth Sunday of the month children are in the worship service as we value an intergenerational worship experience.
No matter who you are or what you come from,

Tanner Cooper-Risser is the Family Ministry Director at Shepherd's House.
Before stepping into this role, Tanner faithfully attended Shepherd’s House with his family. Tanner has been connected to the Shepherd's House since he was a student at MVNU with a short gap when he served as the Director of Family Ministry at the local Presbyterian church. He has spent the past 9 years working in nutrition education and food access in our community and is excited to step back into a ministerial role.
Tanner first felt a call to ministry when he was in middle school. Since then, he has gone on to further his education by pursuing a bachelor's degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in youth ministry and then later a certificate in public and nonprofit leadership from The Ohio State University. Tanner cares deeply about taking a trauma-informed approach to journeying with kids, their families, and reminding them of all our belovedness.
Tanner has been married to Brianna since 2015. Together they are raising and homeschooling their wonderful kids along with 23 animals and counting!
